DAVE ORTON
For the 20th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on Pacific Northwest musician and part of Hyro the Hero Dave Orton.
4EVRGRN: Hey Dave, tell us a little about yourself.
DO: Born in Port Angeles, raised in Gig Harbor. I moved to Seattle the first chance I got but divided a lot of that time between the Harbor and Tacoma.
Check us out on the upcoming Rockstar Disrupt Festival (White River in July) and Vans Warped Tour!
Here's how Dave answered our 7 questions...
4EG: Best meal in the PNW?
DO: Goddamn, if you’re in the Gig, Kinza Teriyaki is THE JAM. Machiavelli in Seattle for everything Italian. Infinite Soups in Tacoma for the best soup I’ve ever tasted. I’ve never walked out with less than three pints.
4EG: What’s the one thing anyone who visits must see or do?
DO: Is it summertime? It is? Then get your ass to Golden Gardens for choice sunsets and an actual sandy beach.
4EG: What do you miss most when you’re outside the PNW?
DO: The air, and the lush landscape. I moved to LA a few years ago. I hate it, but that’s where the work is. Let me tell you, this place is dirty, hot and deescalate. You’re not missing anything.
4EG: Favorite PNW activity?
DO: My best friends still live in WA. They’re all adults now and own houses, have kids, the whole nine. Any chance I get to come home, you’ll find me there, doing nothing.
4EG: Wildest PNW experience?
DO: A buddy of mine and I used to go fishing in his 12' Alumaweld everyday. Once we hit a hard patch of weather and nearly killed our selves. Probably didn’t help that we were near blind by alcohol, but we were bored out through 3’ chop, taking on water and the sun was going down. We had enough gas to dump his rig on a private beach and his Dad picked us up. Obviously we didn’t catch anything, unless you count the swift talking too.
4EG: Best misconception you’ve heard about the PNW?
DO: Everyone loves craft beer. I can’t stand it, it’s totally wasted on me. Give me an Oly, or a PBR and while you’re at it, a shot of well tequila.
4EG: Best PNW childhood memory?
DO: Man, my parents used to cart my brother, sister and I to San Juan Islands when we were kids. There’s that spot, I think in Friday Harbor where Orca come rub their bellies on the flat rocks of the mouth. It was mesmerizing to watch, I think about it all the time.
Catch Dave and the boys on the Vans warped tour this summer or look them up.
