Destiny City Comics
For the 64th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Ethan HD is the new owner of Destiny City Comics.
4EVRGRN: Hey, Ethan HD! Tell us a little about yourself.
EHD: My name is Ethan HD, I’m a professional wrestler and owner of Destiny City Comics in Tacoma, WA. I’m a lifelong Washingtonian and even though wrestling has taken me all over the globe, I’ve always called Tacoma my home. The shop is located in the Stadium District, right across the street from the Tacoma Temple Theatre. We carry comics, graphic novels, wrestling memorabilia, and more!
1. Favorite local product?
EHD: My favorite local product right now is All In which is a Seattle based energy drink. What I appreciate about it, is there’s not a bunch of weird chemicals in it and the flavor is closer to a flavored sparkling water, rather than that harsher energy drink taste.
2.What’s the one thing anyone who visits must see or do?
EHD: Anytime someone comes to Tacoma, weather permitting, I’ll take them to some of the small shops and restaurants around 6th Ave. There’re so many great shops to check out and places to eat at, that it’s easy to find something for anyone who’s visiting.
3. Best local product?
EHD: I’m a sucker for the hot dogs at The Red Hot in Tacoma. Especially because they have some great vegan options as well, including a hotdog called the Nature Boy, name after 16-time world champion, Ric Flair. Alternatively, my favorite place to get a cup of coffee is The Red Elm in the Hilltop neighborhood.
4. Favorite PNW activity?
EHD: Going for a walk. There’s so many urban, woodland, mountain, and seaside walking and hiking trails in the northwest that it keeps things fresh and most of it is all within an hour drive of anywhere you’re at.
5. Wildest PNW experience?
EHD: I’m a sucker for the PNW music scene and especially some of the older venues. A few years ago, I got the chance to promote and perform on a pro wrestling show at El Corazon in Seattle. It was logistical magic to get a wrestling ring into the building and set up on the floor, and getting to stand on the stage at El Corazon, hearing the crowd go wild as they surrounded the ring, made my childhood self-giddy as all hell.
6. Favorite local artist?
EHD: Music wise, my favorite PNW artist is the Blue Scholars. They were a rap group based ought’ve Seattle and a huge reason I got into the local hip-hop scene. In the more traditional sense, Adika Bell (@Deeks253 on Instagram). He paints some incredible portraits. Currently in my house, I have a print of a Black Panther he did which incorporates panels from the Black Panther comic.
7. One thing you want the world to know about the PNW?
EHD: The PNW has a vibe unto itself and needs to be experienced to understand it. It’s so much more than Twin Peaks or Grey’s Anatomy lets on and our music scene is so much richer than Nirvana and Macklemore. I’ve been all over the world and have never been anywhere that made me feel the way this place makes me feel.
