Elevation Automotive
For the 191st week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Tyler and Dana are owners of Elevation Automotive, an auto shop with a reputation for quality work at a fair price.
4EVRGRN: Hey, EA! Tell us a little about yourselves.
EA: Elevation Automotive was started by Tyler Skinner and his wife Dana Skinner in the beginning of 2023. We provide Automotive services for everything from oil changes to engine swaps, check engine light diagnostics, general maintenance, and performance upgrading.
Tyler has spent over the last decade working in the automotive service industry in many roles before finally deciding to open a shop of his own so that he could give people the proper "people first" experience.
Here at Elevation Automotive you will be met with honest work for honest pricing. You will feel like family because that’s what we strive for our customers, to feel a part of the experience and walk them through their services every step of the way and assure them they are making the right investment for their vehicle. Elevation is here to heighten your automotive experience and create a new way to look at automotive repair shops. Please contact us if you would like to schedule an appointment or request a quote. Thank you so much and we look forward to meeting every one of you.

What is your background working with cars?
EA: I started working on cars as a teenager with my friends. We were really into tuning up Hondas and trying to squeeze as much power out of them as possible with the least amount of money. I was offered an opportunity by a friend to start working professionally in 2011 and since then I have been progressing to the level I am at currently. In the last 12 years I've become ASE L1 master certified as well as ASE advanced diagnostic specialist certified. I take pride in learning everything I know with my hands and with tons of help from other senior technicians over the years.
What sets your shop apart from other auto mechanics?
EA: We really strive to make all customers’ experience very personal. We take the time to get to know you before we take your vehicle in. We also taken a ton of pride in being completely transparent about what your vehicle actually NEEDS and not focusing on a bunch of up sales. We have a YouTube page where Tyler does segments on how to diagnose and fix certain problems so that customers don’t get taken advantage of by expensive dealers and can often repair the vehicle themselves. We offer nationwide warranty at no cost to customers and also provide all our customers with a complimentary service which includes a vacuum of the front cabin, washing of the front windows, and an air freshener with a 10%OFF coupon for their next visit all at no cost to the customer. We also offer a referral program for customers who send new people our way. We also do a free vehicle safety inspection for customers during every visit. From start to finish we do our best to add as much value to our customers as we can to help them trust that we have their best interest in mind when servicing their vehicle.
What makes car culture in the PNW unique?
EA: Car culture in the PNW is one of a kind. I've been to many car shows and meets over the years and it has always amazed me how accepting the culture is here in the PNW. It doesn't matter what you drive or how it looks, if you love cars and have a passion for it, you are a part of our tribe, and that is something you just can't find anywhere else.
With summer coming up, what should people check on their cars before taking a road trip?
EA: With summer coming up I always tell people to get their cooling systems checked, a/c system service, and get their brakes checked. Poor operating cooling system could make your vehicle overheat much easier in the summer heat. A/C systems can often have several issues once they start to get used constantly during the summer, so it is always a good idea to make sure it's operating correctly BEFORE you are melting in traffic. And lastly, in the summer more people tend to take road trips or tow campers and boats. Always have your braking system checked before doing any of these things as the increased temperature along with the additional length in driving or added weight of towing can affect your braking system as well.
Favorite place to cruise in the PNW?
EA: Ruston way was always a fun place to go cruise when I was a kid, before it got busy over the last few years. Our go to spot is always Alki Beach as of recent times and has never let us down on a picture opportunity.
What is one thing you wish everyone in the PNW would do to take care of their cars?
EA: When your vehicle is making a abnormal noise or may not feel 100% right, please get it looked at. Too many times I see people neglect a small issue that turns into a much bigger issue later on and costs 2-3x to fix than the original problem. Shops like mine are here to help, so let us.
Favorite local product or service for cars in the PNW?
EA: My favorite local service vehicles right now would have to be Chelsea's All Girl Auto. She is taking the industry to the next level by providing a trusted service for women to feel comfortable and not be taken advantage of. She literally goes and does all the hard work for the customer and gives them the best possible options for their needs.
