One of the best ways to get outta your head is to get outside and find adventure. As someone who works in the helping profession it's crucial for me to take care of my own mental health first. I've always had a sense of adventure and love trying new places out. Yesterday we decided to check out two places along the Peninsula. My daughter Ebonie and best friend Chandra are always down for one of my random adventures and this one didn't disappoint. We left the house at 10:30am and returned at 9:00pm.
The Sequim Game Farm Park is a 2 hour drive from the Seattle/Tacoma area. Admission is good for the whole day. It is $20 for adults and $15 for kids. Under 5 is free. You drive your car thru while feeding the animals bread out of the your car windows. Bread must be purchased there for $3 a loaf. I highly recommend getting at least 2 loaves per person as the animals LOVE eating from your hands. There is also a walk thru area where you can play with lots of goats and walk under an aquarium to see the fish. There are plenty of places to take pictures as well. The experience is well worth the drive.
As you leave the zoo there is a creek that runs along the road. It's a great spot to stop and have a picnic.
Our next stop was Devils Punch Bowl. This was a 45 min drive from the Zoo. The scenery was stunning along highway 101. As we got close we noticed a few pull off areas off the road and decided to stop and take a closer took of Lake Cresent. It is the most beautiful water I've seen in Washington and I've seen alot of water in Washington.
Once you arrive at the trailhead there is a parking lot and a single stall restroom. The hike to the bowl is paved and approximately 20 mins. Once you arrive at the train bridge you can choose to walk around it to the bowl or walk thru it and get to the bowl from the other side. The bridge is pitch black inside. The walk thru is about 5 mins and provides quite the eerie feeling you'd expect waking in a dark tunnel.
Along the short trail to the punchbowl, there were many people swimming in the perfectly clear water. It was so clear you could see the large rocks that were 25 feet below. The lake is fully surrounded by trees and had a few homes/resorts along the edges.
The bowl itself is tucked behind a walking bridge that has a large rock structure behind it. The water was absolutely stunning.
I highly recommend getting out and checking these places out if you haven't already. I will definitely be back for more.
