For the 78TH week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW....Nate Edwards is a barber and co-owner of Gold + Grit Co. in Portland, OR.

4EVRGRN: Hey, NE! Tell us a little about yourself.

NE: Hey, my name is Nate Edwards and I’m the Co-Owner of the LGBTQIA+ owned and operated barbershop Gold + Grit Barber Co. I’ve been in the industry for 6 years and I am passionate about making every human feel welcome in the barbershop. A hair space where everyone is celebrated in an androgynous atmosphere. We are redefining the barbering industry with the knowledge that having short hair isn’t just for men. My barbershop is located in the beautiful Slabtown Neighborhood of NW Portland OR. We perform services on a one on one basis 6 days a week for your safety and ours during the pandemic. We pride ourselves in offering the safest environment possible during these unsettling times. 

What’s your favorite part of running a PNW business?

NE: The PNW is so beautiful but my favorite part of running my business is providing a safe space for everyone in a time where we are losing queer safe spaces due to the pandemic. It’s an honor to have the support that we have.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

NE: I love building trusting relationships with my clients and helping them feel like their most authentic selves. 

What is a unique trait of PNW Customers?

NE: Let’s just say the beard vanity is real. And I’m here for it. 

Favorite PNW Artist?

NE: My favorite PNW artist is my good friend/tattoo artist/ and logo designer Alex Wolff. (@wolffmantattoo)

He recently moved away to South Dakota but I’m forever grateful for everything he has done for me and my business. His passion for his art is inspiring.

Favorite Place to Escape in the PNW?

NE: I’m a sucker for a hot tub anywhere on the Oregon Coast. 

Best Meal in the PNW?

NE: If you haven’t had a grilled cheese from Serene Eatery (@serenepdx) at the Hawthorne Asylum food carts; you haven’t had the true Portland experience. The best by far!

What is your favorite local product?

NE: Freeland Spirits Bourbon is my absolute favorite. It’s a female owned business and the quality is amazing. Check them out on IG (@FreelandSpirits)
