TINY HEARTS HOMESTEAD
For the 196th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Brooke Neale runs an animal sanctuary called Tiny Hearts Homestead. Not only is it a fun petting farm but they host events too!
4EVRGRN: Hey, BN! Tell us a little about yourselves.
BN: My name is Brooke. Farm life is not something I grew up with, but more something I was nudged into. When my husband convinced me, we needed to leave suburban life and get acreage, I reluctantly agreed. When he soon after told me he bought me goats to fill some of the acreage, I happily accepted. Soon after I was consistently being approached about taking in other animals who needed a home, and our head count quickly grew. I needed a way to pay for these animals in need, and that's how the petting farm of Tiny Hearts Homestead was formed.
What is the most popular animal at Tiny Hearts Homestead?
BN: I believe the cow is for sure a fan favorite here. He is slightly more unique and mini cows and highlands seem to be popular. But everyone seems to connect to a different animal. For little kids, feeding the chickens is always loved.
What should people know before booking a visit?
BN: Something to realize before booking a visit is these are animals, and we need to respect them. I'd say 90% are very loving and cannot wait for attention from people. A few have sassier attitudes from time to time and we need to always be cautious. Also, this is a true farm and poop, and dirt is going to be a part of it.
How can people book a trip to Tiny Hearts Homestead?
BN: My main way to book a visit is through Airbnb Experiences. It allows you to book hour-long visits to the farm. I also recommend following our Instagram @tinyheartshomestead so you can keep up on other events we host like Craft days, Yoga, Wine Tasting, and free to the public vendor events.
Is it true people can book birthday parties at the farm? How does that work?
BN: Birthday parties for kids and adults are another thing you can book at the farm. Messaging me through email or Instagram is the best way to book them. It is priced per hour, and you get the farm to yourself and as much animal time as you like. You also have access to picnic tables and a covered area for food, along with each person getting a small tub of snacks to feed the animals. I do have a slushie and popcorn machine available to add to your party.
What is it like running an animal sanctuary?
BN: Running a hobby farm is time consuming but very rewarding. I still do my dental hygiene job 4 days a week and some days after work, doing farm chores is the last thing I want to do, but it has to be done. The animals are so sweet and loving that once I get out there it makes it all worth it. The hardest part is vacationing or being spontaneous. Luckily I have a great family and neighbors that can take over for me when I need it. The farm is my happy place.
Favorite place to unwind in the PNW?
BN: Favorite place to unwind is anywhere near the water. Whether it's my husband's family beach cabin on Camano Island for a weekend getaway of crabbing, or our local restaurant The Island Lodge on Tapps Island to grab a bite and a drink. But honestly, our home and farm has become such a special place to us, that we love being outside in our own backyard.
Best meal in the PNW?
BN: Favorite meal in the PNW is a tossup between the Steak Salad at the Island Lodge or the Stuffed Avocados at Sorci's in Sumner.
