Traveling While Black Seattle

For the 137th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Traveling While Black Seattle is a couple traveling the PNW and making adventures more accessible for the Black community through their fun videos and honest reviews.

4EVRGRN: Hey, WPC! Tell us a little about yourself.

TWB: Hi, we are Anthony and Marlie Love, the travel duo behind the YouTube show Traveling While Black in Seattle. The show details our unique travel experiences around the Pacific Northwest.

How did you decide to start your YouTube channel?

TWB: We decided to start our YouTube channel for two reasons. First, we told ourselves when we moved to Seattle that we would get out and explore, and not sit at home watching tv all day. Creating the show was a way to hold us accountable. Second, growing up in the Midwest, there are places that aren’t comfortable for people of color, and we didn’t know where those were in the Seattle area… (Google didn’t provide that information when researching either). So, we thought it would be great to be that resource for others that might be asking the same questions as us.

What are some of your favorite Black owned businesses in the PNW?

TWB: Some of our favorite restaurants are: Communion, Classic Eats, Jerk Shack, and Althas Louisiana. Rabecca Onassis Boutique has some of the cutest clothes! Once we start working out again, lol, we will be at City Sweats!

We have an interactive map through Proxi, where people can support minority owned businesses and add businesses to the map as well. The map can be found here:

Being from St. Louis what was the biggest piece of couture shock moving to the PNW?

TWB: The biggest culture shock is the support of Black Lives Matter…. In a good way! In Missouri, it’s rare to see that support, so it feels great to see if more here.

Best meal in the PNW?

TWB: Marlie’s opinion: Every meal at Communion and the oysters at Elliott’s on the pier. Anthony’s opinion: Anything with seafood!!

     5. Wildest PNW experience?

TWB: Our wildest experience… take a look at episode 50.

Favorite way to travel?

TWB: We love flying, especially on Alaska Airlines. However, our road trips are so fun together. It’s great seeing the beauty of the PNW via car.

Where is somewhere in the PNW everyone should visit in their life?

TWB: We think everyone should come and see the beauty of Mount Rainier. It’s fascinating to see it “disappear” and then “reappear”. It’s so beautiful and everyone needs to see it.
