For the 154th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Uncork & Unwind is a wine bar in Tumwater that focuses on Washington wines.

4EVRGRN: Hey, MP! Tell us a little about yourselves.

MP: Hello - I'm Michelle and I'm a Professional Drinker.  Who knew when I was a high schooler and was taking all those occupational tests to figure out what I'd grow to be - Professional Drinker is where I'd land?  I will oddly say Wine Taster WAS on my occupational testing.... go figure.  I opened a wine bar knowing nothing about wine, beer or how to run a restaurant.  But I was perfectly miserable in my life and had to make a change.  And owning a wine bar sounds like a ton of fun.  I happen to love traveling and have made it to 12 countries in both hemispheres.  Most of that traveling happened between 2018 & 2019.  I've bungee jumped in Croatia, parasailed off a mountain in South African, Zip Lined in Costa Rica, Alpine Roller Coastered in Germany and went White Water Rafting in WA State.  Did I mention I'm also a plus sized knock out?  Don't let the physical weight and the weight of other people hold you back from living your fullest life!

Uncork & Unwind will be turning the big 12 years old on July 8, 2022!  When we opened, I hoped to last for 10 years!  We mostly serve WA wines, all craft beers, and ciders, have a small import section and offer a small but mighty food menu of fresh items.  We are in Tumwater in the shadow of the Old Olympia Brewery in an adorable craft style home. We have a cozy outdoor area along with seats inside.  We offer fun events like wine tastings, psychic events, craft night, and oh so much more.  

Most popular menu item?

MP: I actually looked this up - Antipasti Plate is top winner. Blissful Wunders Truffles for desserts and Red Wine in the wine categories.

Most popular wine from the PNW?

MP: So, we change our wines every 2 months. So, we rarely keep the same wine on for very long. But definitely red wines are peoples favorites.

Tell us about your wine club tasting.

MP: We have 2 Wine Clubs - Red or White. The clubs work similarly. You come in the first full week of the month and participate in a blind tasting of 5 wines. You choose your two favorites, and we charge you $55 for Red or $45 for White. Red Wine Club meets on odd months and White Wine Club on even months. If you can't make it for the blind tasting, you get the two most popular wines.

What makes PNW wine unique?

MP: I believe it’s because we have such a variety of growing regions that make our wines so awesome!

You guys have some awesome events! Do they change monthly or do some reoccur?

MP: We have a few events that reoccur each month - wine classes, wine tastings. We've also had psychic events, craft nights, anniversary parties, larger tastings - so many different events. It's best to follow us on Facebook, join our email group or look up our website for all our upcoming events.

What advice would you have for people who want to drink wine but don't know where to start?

MP: Just try it. And never make a decision on the first taste of the wine. Take that second taste before you decide if you like it or not.
