Wendy Clough

For the 135th week of "7 QUESTION SUNDAY" we shine the spotlight on another influential individual from the PNW. Wendy Clough is the regional sales manager at Smith Brothers Farms, a grocery delivery service to the greater Seattle area.

4EVRGRN: Hey, WC! Tell us a little about yourself.

WC: I grew up in Massachusetts and had stops in Miami and Cincinnati and Boston prior to moving to Seattle in 2005. Three great girls call me mom and I usually respond. I had worked in the non-profit world and spent a few years in I-502. Prior to working for Smith Brothers I sold Hondas for 3 years - I kinda love cars. My current vehicle is a Smith Brothers Farms van that resembles a cow. and I totally dig it!

What’s the first thing someone new to Smith Brothers Farms should try?

WC: If they are a milk drinker, they really must try the milk! Our milk honestly tastes better than any milk I have ever had. It is so fresh – just 48 hours from the cow to you. It goes thru a simple pasteurization process that allows it to retain more enzymes and the good stuff! If someone doesn’t drink milk, we do carry almond and oat milk and I would let them know that there are SO many other great grocery items that we carry: produce, meats, coffee, bagels, eggs, cheeses, yogurt, pasta, sauces – the list goes on and on!

What makes Smith Brother’s the best option for delivering groceries in the PNW?

WC: So many things make it the best choice! Delivery is free with orders of $10 or more, there is no contract, no subscription, no obligation and managing it is so easy with our app. Lots of folks think that milk is all we do but there is so much more! Most of the items that we carry are from companies local to the PNW and I love that!

You guys still run traditional milkman and women routes, how fun is it to still deliver milk this way?

WC: We have customers that have been with us for over 50 years, and we get brand new customers every day. All of them love the personal touch they get thru their milkman or milkwoman. There is something special about that relationship and it is certainly different that any other delivery processes these days. It is a unique feeling when you open that iconic porch box in the morning and know the name of the person that delivered your groceries. Our milkmen and women work very hard, often delivering long before the sun comes up. They are dedicated to our customers!

What is working for Smith Brother’s like?

WC: It is so fun! Everywhere I go, long-time customers high five me, wave to me, yell out how awesome their milkman is, tell me how their grandparents got deliveries from us, tell me their memories of drinking chocolate milk when they were little – and how they still get it delivered because they love it so much! It feels very special to be working for a company that has such deep roots in the community. Smith Brothers Farms has been in business here for 101 years! Working for a company that is so important to so many people feel like a big responsibility and it is one all of us take very seriously.

What is the feedback you get from current clients?

WC: Our clients are our best salespeople – they love us, and they love to talk about us! Home Grocery Delivery has become a lot more common these days, but Smith Brothers Farms stands out because of our commitment to community, commitment to local products, commitment to sublime customer service. Our customers trust us and they know they can count on us.

 Favorite Smith Brother’s recipe?

WC: Our eggnog recipe was a big hit this holiday season!

1/2 cup Smith Brothers Farms Eggnog

1/4 cup Smith Brothers milk or half & half

1/4 cup Tony's Coffee

Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

Combine cold eggnog with cold milk and

cook over low to medium heat.

Make a cup of hot coffee or espresso.

When the eggnog and milk are thoroughly

heated, add coffee or espresso, top with

whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg

Favorite local product?

WC: Ellenos Yogurt is my favorite local item that we carry, though it is hard to choose. I have been such a huge fan of that company and their yogurt since the first time I tasted it at Pike Place Market years and years ago. Watching them grow has been so fun. The taste is incredible and the range of their products we carry is great – from plain, unsweetened to the Lemon Curd – delish!
